The beginner’s mind…
A concept called "beginner's mind" in yoga implores us to approach a familiar activity anew each time- as if we never attempted it in the past and, more importantly, as if we do not know what the outcome will be.
As usual with the Elevated Yoga Studio philosophy, this is not limited to physical poses in yoga class; it extends to all branches of yoga and to our lives off the mat. That conflict with a co-worker who is "always so difficult"? What if you interacted with him as if it were the first time you spoke? That worrisome dentist appointment? What if you could channel your childhood experiences of fun interactions with healthcare? Visualizations of these approaches train the mind and help create clarity and calmness.
These forces undoubtedly affect both the process, the outcome, and your perception of both. To get started, we encourage you to reexamine old habits, to take a breath, and to begin again.
Is yoga for me?
Yoga is for everyone! You don’t have to be flexible, look a certain way, be a certain age, or know how to do the poses to find comfort in yoga. Our teachers will help you learn everything you need. All you need to start or continue a practice is a desire to try. You will find we are a small, intimate studio that works to create a safe space for everyone to spend time with themselves and build community. The hardest part is showing up and we will take it from there!
What happens in class?
Our classes are designed to accommodate all bodies and all people. We don’t classify our classes by level because we believe that any one should be able to take any class at any time. You’ll find our classes have a gentle focus on building strength and connection between your body, mind, and spirit.
What do I need?
You’ll want to wear comfortable and flexible clothing to practice yoga. A bottle of water is also a good idea. Feel free to bring a mat but we always have mats available for your use at any time!
Join our next Foundations Course by Mooka!
Monica (owner of Mooka) will lead a four week foundations course to explore the basics of your own body, mind, and heart connections. The Mooka curriculum is based in the science of yoga, mindfulness, and growth mindset. Yoga is much more than moving our bodies on a mat. Come together to learn what yoga is really all about and gain confidence in your own practice.
We will focus on:
alignment and modifications of familiar yoga postures
breaking down what the breath is all about, plus how and when to use it
what our thinking minds do, and how to gain back control
a culminating lesson of gratitude
And how to take this yoga stuff off the mat and into your everyday life
What: eight 75 min classes (four weeks, two classes a week). Classes build upon one another - so best attend all, but it’s not the end of the world if you miss one.
When: Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:15-8:30p (next course begins July 15th and runs through Aug 7th)
